About Kirby Method
When you've said goodbye to your life and identity as you know it, it’s hard to figure it out. In fact, that's the understatement of the year.
Figuring out your life post sports' career is more challenging than competing at the highest levels of the sport itself.
Who you are, what you like to do, what you’re passionate about, what you should eat now that you're not exercising all day every day… none of it is defined.
Here's why it's hard:
Competing in your sport is a known. The mental toughness, muscles screaming in pain and fatigue, endless (sometimes tortuous) coach feedback, the disciplined recovery routine of ice baths, necessary rest, and ongoing treatment…all challenges and a testament to why we are elite athletes.
We pour everything we have, literally mind, body, and heart, into our daily work with ourselves, our team, and our opponents, to improve and be at the top of our game. It’s who we are.
Then it happens. You score your last goal, shoot your last basket, run the bases one last time. Whether or not you were prepared for your athletic career to end, you aren't prepared for what's next. After playing soccer for over 15 years, I certainly wasn't.
What I wasn't prepared for was the new set of rules I now lived under. It's an entirely new ball game (haha, get it?). Who you are, what you do, how you define success - everything's changed in mere minutes.
So what now?
I’ve brought together a community for those who realize the power in former elite athletes designing a clear (and meaningful!) path forward in life post sport.
You have the opportunity to design your life.
You can find a life you love just as much, if not more, than your life as an athlete.
You can find success, happiness, and fulfillment by developing skills you'll use quite literally for the rest of your life, if you so choose to.
It takes hard work to get there, but we athletes know what hard work is. The work required isn't the problem.
It's understanding what we're working towards, how we're working towards it, and aligning it with our passions. It's understanding the playbook and how it relates to the bigger game plan.
So join me and this community of athletes.
Design your life.
Love your life post sport.
