My journey to becoming a Coach - as featured on Coach Training World

"It's incredibly important to me to help others figure out what's next in life after sport, find that passion, and not just get by, but THRIVE."

The coach certification program I went through to become a life coach, called Coach Training World, recently highlighted me as a feature graduate. Wow. What a privilege.

Feroshia Knight, Coach Training World's Founder, and I discuss my story and how I found coaching.

While I'm not going to dive into all the details here (you can read more about it on Coach Training World), let me tell you - it's a been a journey.

After pouring everything I had into soccer for 15 years, my soccer career was over in the blink of an eye. After a knee injury left my body unable to continue at the professional level, I was forced to call it quits to one thing I knew inside and out.

"After being a soccer player my entire life, there was no future in sight. All I could think about was that my soccer career was over. I didn't know how I was going to make a living. I didn't know who I was other than a soccer player. I was worried I had peaked at the age of 24, and that I wouldn't ever find something I loved as much as soccer."

Well, I'm here to tell you, I found coaching. Feroshia says it beautifully in our interview - through coaching you can find your "next and BEST career ever." And that's what I did.

I worked with a life coach to figure out what the heck I was going to do next. She helped me uncover my (sometimes quite subtle) curiosities, enabling me to explore different areas of interest.

I did some volunteer work in the community, helping families be active and learning about healthy habits. I attended conferences and events on health, coaching, and psychology. I started coaching part time as I worked a full time job, to try it out.

I discovered an aliveness within me when I helped others find that passion, that spark within themselves. I love those aha moments, when something just clicks, and the client fits in a big piece to the puzzle. I realized I was very interested in how our brains work, how we make decisions, and how our thinking influences our reality.

So, after exploring my curiosities, learning what excited me and what didn't, and trying some things out, I knew coaching was my next step. So I took the plunge and got certified as a life coach at Coach Training World.

I was blown away by the coaching world and power of this-thing-we-call coaching. I consider myself a pretty self aware human being, and I learned more about myself than I thought was possible. On top of that, I learned some pretty incredible tools and frameworks for helping others find that key to their best life (isn't that what we are all looking for? Our best life?).

Today, I help elite athletes struggling to fill the void in life after sport figure out what the heck is next. I'm passionate about helping them discover the confidence, tools, and resources they need to find, and live, a life they love as much as sport.

I'm extraordinarily grateful for the gift of coaching. It's brought me some of the best things you can get in life - genuine purpose, passion, and inspiration.
